Jody said this to Janie when he first met her. It shows symbolizes the way he is going to treat her. He is saying that he will treat her better if she was married to him instead. He thinks that she deserves better than Logan Killicks. Joe Starks sees her all covered in mud and dirt, and believes that she deserves better. He wants to take her to Eatonville with him to make help her build a better life. Jody can see her feeding off of what he buys her, and getting everything she wants. He doesn't understand why Janie is going through all that and being married to Logan.
